The Groundhog Timberbeast presents his latest dialogue for troubled times:
FUZZY WATERS
In his latest full-length play, Step Taylor places us in seemingly familiar territory: a
dealership for cellular, internet and home phone services. The store’s titular
character, however, is a little less recognizable. Fuzzy Waters is a young sales
consultant for Maritime wireless provider AtlantiConnect who feels overburdened by a
breakup he didn’t want, a mother who babies him, a best friend who’s got the hots for
his mother, a consistently absent father, and a tendency not to meet his sales quotas.
The only solution for this network of problems, as far as he’s concerned, is to become
a serial killer.
Step Taylor is a STU alumnus and emerging New Brunswick playwright whose
produced works include Shoes That Aren’t Red, Sure They Do Eugene, Stap my vitals!
and Chapel Arm.
Taylor wrote and work-shopped Fuzzy Waters over an eight-month period as part of his
playwriting training in the University of British Columbia’s Optional Residency
Creative Writing Program.
The premiere production is committed to being an authentic representation of the
customer-salesperson dynamic, and thus boasts an outrageously large and rich cast of
nineteen local actors. This stylistic, fast-paced dark comedy covers everything from
naïve love to rotting family trees to modernity’s obsession with technology, all from
the perspective of an incompetent, incomparable protagonist.
The show is directed by Step Taylor, stage-managed by Mary Keenan, with lighting by
veteran Chris Saad and original music by Valley Young Company’s Lee Kinney.
Fuzzy Waters will be performed at the Black Box Theatre, 8pm, from Wednesday,
August 19 through Saturday, August 22. Tickets are $10 / adults and
$5 / students and are available at the door.

Howdy!
Well, last night the written and spoken word reigned supreme (as brought to you by The Vagabond Trust in NB). Thanks to the friends, family and listeners who came out to watch the yarn spin as only we can do (in two places at once). Thanks to Chapters Fredericton and MOD Matt, and the fledgling Woodstock venture, the Dooryard Summer Arts Festival.
Keep paying attention,
Cannonball

Hogtown Update!
Boys boys boys, you’ve outdone yourselves. We’ve been busy in Teeronto, but it seems we are still second fiddle to you . . . your penchant for doppelganging at multiple provincial events leaves this Campeye Comet starryeyed and toprocking in your honour. We are confined to two Ontario cities at this point - members in Toronto and Guelph (Shups!), while you rule NB from Woodstock to Freddy to Saint Johnny B Rockin’.
On the girls versus U front: recently Darrah, myself and a fantastic choreographer and dancer named Megan English teamed up to create ‘ROAD STORY’ in the SummerWorks Performance Gallery at the Gladstone Hotel. We had three runs of the show, two for the GP on Thurs Aug 6 and Fri Aug 7, and one for SummerWorks bigwigs N’ sponsors this past Sunday Aug 9. Your very own Groundhog Timberbeast had the final word in our show . . . part of an answering machine message he left me made it in to the piece. We were exploring travel: departures, Newfoundland, divided highways, being in more than one place in mind and body and spirit . . . through dance and text and video and kaossilations.
This August we applied to the Toronto Arts Council to support our monthly reading series, and twice monthly writers workshop. Keep your cloven hooves clicking! In the meantime, we’ll return with our reading series in September.
Your favourite North American bison, her Lilyness, has been up to her usual antics with me on the Island. For the most part she behaves herself, but she does get a little excited about all the good peeps and fun times she’s having at the G Point Art Hospital . . . this is the part where I upload a picture, but unfortunately the Art Hospital server does not want to cooperate and engage . . . at least the wireless is working at the moment. More soon merry Maritimers . . .
From the Hogtown outskirts,
Campeye Comet

Hey all,
The Library Scissorbill has created another cool poster while incubating his shell-covered offspring:

Come on out to Chapters for some real capital culture.
Jordan Trethewey has posted his latest “publicly accepted” work, You Got Yours, over the right on his page. Enjoy.
