So, a friend has pointed me in the direction of the wonderful world of crowd sourcing known as Reddit.
Searching about the “reddits” and “subreddits” last night I discovered a quirky community of writers who fit every nook and cranny of every genre. Some are looking for feedback, some for readers and some just want to vent. These sound like my kind of people.
Interestingly, one chap has started a writing magazine as a subreddit (category). As someone submitting, what you do is either submit a post with a link to your story in Google Docs, or paste the text in your post. It is then placed in the subreddit queue for other writers and readers to either “up vote” or “down vote” (“like” or “dislike” for you facebookers). Those stories with the most up votes at the end of the month make it into a .pdf-style magazine which is available for free download.
I have placed my latest story “A Feast of Catharsis” here to see what happens. I encourage y’all to sign up for a free reddit login and read the story. If you like it (or if I’ve forced you Vagabonds to already read and crit. it) please up vote it so it has a chance to get into the magazine.
Also, if you like what the writing community has to offer on reddit, and you are pro-active in critiquing and commenting on other writers’ work and posts, you can earn credit “karma.” One advantage to this that I see is that if you put in the effort, they will list and promote you e-book here.
Good luck, and thanks,
